In this new chapter of my life especially, I am learning to be present rather than perfect. Each day is about showing up and doing the best I can with what I know, trusting that confidence and clarity will come in the weeks and months ahead. What looks effortless is often built on a lot of effort and hard days behind the scenes that slowly shape someone along the way.

“Strive for Progress not Perfection” is the phrase written on the cover of my home project notebook. I bought it years ago to keep track of all the ideas and projects I would like to accomplish in our home, but the phrase itself has stayed with me far beyond that.
It is a reminder that I have often come back to when I feel myself growing frustrated and near tears. Progress in any form should be celebrated because it is a milestone along the way to our destination.

Watercolor has been a form of art that I have wanted to learn for such a long time. I have always loved how the paints create a soft, translucent color when applied to an image. There is something about it that just feels calming to look at.
One afternoon during a girls’ day out, we wandered into the most adorable boutique. There on display were Emily Lex’s watercolor workbooks, the same ones I had been debating purchasing for the past year. Without hesitation, I picked one out and also added her brushes and paint set to my bag.
I have really been enjoying this new hobby. What I’ve learned is that watercolor takes patience and it is not meant to be perfect. While you gently guide where color goes, it takes on a life of its own, moving and blending through the water.
This has become such a peaceful way to spend my Sunday afternoons and a nice way to also practice the art of letting go.

One of my favorite comfort meals, especially with the flu having gone through our house this past week.
