Happy Hour No. 3
It is finally summertime!
We have not done happy hour in a while and I figure it is time to catch you up! To start, yes, I am still volunteering at the barn and loving it! Recently, I decided to work towards getting my certification to teach therapeutic riding lessons and I am so excited! I have been a volunteer for several years now and it has been amazing to see the impact that equine assisted therapy has had on the participants in our program. I am anxious to be able to make even more of a difference in people’s lives by learning how to implement lesson plans based off individual needs. I am a little anxious about the testing process though…
Overall, it has been an uneventful year so far. Our cat is nearing the age of 20(!!!) which makes it hard for me to get away right now. In a way, it is nice to be home a little more. Between volunteering, as well as my own riding lesson during the week among other obligations, I keep quite busy. Back in April, I rode in my very first “show” that the barn held where I take lessons. It was simply just for fun, but it gave me a small taste and idea of what the show ring might be like someday. I ended up coming home with two blue ribbons, but I was also very proud of myself for signing up to begin with. Participating in a horse show has been on my vision board and it was amazing to see that dream come to life. Even though it was not a “real” show, it was still a great day spent with friends and family!
Rob has been on several hunting and fishing trips already this year and he has more planned throughout the summer. My goal while he is away is to get our landscape cleaned up. I need to redo a lot of the borders because they are starting to pop out of the ground. Not a task I am looking forward to, but it needs to be done. Our bushes have also grown tremendously. I’m not even sure what to do about them.. they are out of control! No one ever tells you about pruning bushes as they grow. I really wish that I would have kept up on it better.
We were able to get our camper out at the end of April for the first adventure of the year. Surprisingly, we got beautiful weather! There was no wind, rain, or severe storms like in previous years that we chose to go in April. We went with another couple and had the prettiest campsite that overlooked the lake. We had access to a small dock just behind our campers and there was also a large shaded and open area for yard games. It was truly the most perfect weekend.
That pretty much sums up life at the moment! I hope that your summer is off to a great start!
