Rest is Not Falling Behind | The Sunday Pause No. 1

Mar 22, 2026 | The Sunday Pause

For the past month, I have been very intentional about setting aside Sunday as a true day of rest. Growing up, you could find my family and I in the church pews every Sunday morning and the rest of the afternoon we would spend at home. We neither shopped nor worked that one day of the week and dinner was always on the table where we gathered together as a family.

Since finding myself busier than ever during this current season of life, it has felt so good to go back to my roots. I don’t know about you, but sometimes I feel like my week ends just as soon as it began. Between to-do lists, work, extracurricular activities… we often neglect to take time to breathe and just be still.

My life has been impacted in such a positive way since committing to this routine of intentionally slowing down once a week. One quiet Sunday afternoon, I felt prompted to share my slow Sundays and “The Sunday Pause” was born. So, I invite you to pour yourself a cup of coffee and stay a while… let’s talk.

· On My Heart ·

“Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.” – Exodus 20:8

This year began with a big life shift as I chose to leave my job and follow a calling I’ve felt for a long time. I knew this journey would not be the easiest route I could take, but I was so excited and filled with hope.

Initially I felt prepared to take on these new roles, and I truly was. I found purpose and direction for this blog and my goals at the barn had finally begun to take shape and come to fruition. I have never been happier, but learning how to balance a new schedule has been a challenge.

When I felt myself starting to become overwhelmed, lies began to fill my head. My faith was being tested. “You are not qualified.” “You need to give up and get a normal job. It would be so much easier” “Who do you think you are to do these things?”

It was then that I turned to God and asked for help. That’s when this scripture came back to me. It felt like a reminder that if I was asking for guidance, then I also needed to trust His word and allow myself a day of rest.

I’m slowly learning that stepping away for a day isn’t falling behind, it’s restoring the strength to move forward again.

· A Quiet Moment ·

I taught myself how to cross-stitch in 2020 when the world shut down and we all found ourselves with more time at home than ever before. Six years later, it is still one of my favorite ways to quiet my mind after a long week.

I have so many memories of my Grandma sitting in her maroon recliner late at night, working away on a cross stitch underneath her lamp. I am tearing up just thinking about her as I write this. She would always tell me how much fun she thought they were to work on.

Last April, I used birthday money to purchase a beautiful needlepoint pattern of a girl and horse standing in a field of wildflowers. I am close to being finished, and every time I sit down to work on it, I feel close to my Grandma.

If you have never done cross stitch but you would like to learn, a small kit is the perfect place to begin. Most kits come with everything you need as well as directions to get started. You just might find yourself loving them as much as I do!

· Sunday Supper ·

When the weather is nice- we love to grill!

On the table:

Grilled Chicken & Pork Chops

“Seeds of Change” Brown Rice & Quinoa

Broccoli

Simple. Healthy. Satisfying.

I know that taking every Sunday off is not something that will be feasible for everyone, but I hope that you will at least feel inspired to find pockets of time to let your mind and body rest. We do not fall behind by taking care of ourselves, we fall behind when we don’t.

Have a beautiful day, friend!
